Well guys it's a start... I changed my idea to self-defense. We've all read the campus emails about people getting assaulted, robbed, or sexually harassed on campus and this is an email inspired storyboard to make people aware and to get them to take self defense to give themselves a fighting chance.
The storyboard is very rough and I would like the opinions of my classmates about whether I should have the text fill out the new message screen or if I should "click" and "send" each message frame to clear the new message screen so it's not just a huge block of text at the end. Any thoughts?
Also I already posted my tutorial and I'm thinking about having my 2d images becoming 3d images as "pop ups" on the screen any ideas on how I could do that or if it's something worth doing?
Jay,
ReplyDeleteI think you definitely need to hit send and send the emails out before you start the new message. maybe something fun to play with is actually addressing the emails to like an NC senator or something to show that it is really in the end only you that will stick up for you, and thats why self defense is important. I think your organization should be tied to ASU because you are using their email site so it automatically puts you in the schools mind set. Also I hope you include graphics some how in this email PSA. I am glad you changed ideas to this one, hope I could help!
Looks good, Jay. I agree with everything Jake just said as well. I would like to see something different happen, though. The whole project takes place in a pretty stagnant place, try to add some thing more dynamic or surprising.
ReplyDeleteHow did you do this?! Looks great. I think pop-ups would be a great way of adding some of what Matt is referring to as "dynamic or surprising." Maybe the pop-ups represent the threat which your defending yourself against.
ReplyDeletegood idea, this is a much more relatable topic as opposed to something done more in jest. there's a large audience for this so remain aware of their struggle going forward
ReplyDeleteI think this is a much stronger direction for you to take, and you already have a great start, I like the idea of the information appearing in the email but I agree on both points that you should have the messages send each time and also having something different like a pop up happen at some point.
ReplyDeleteGood idea, but I feel like you need some other imagery or effect besides the typing of emails. You should break it up and throw in some clips of self defense, something of the like.
ReplyDeleteWow very strong! I like where you are heading with this idea. Just add some more variations or something to break it up a bit.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very strong concept. I do think there needs to be more variation visually. Maybe you could start with the wide shot that you currently have throughout the whole video, then cut to a closer shot of the text that fills up the screen a little more. Also, your font choice could be closer to the one used in e-mails (Arial I think? Not sure). Great start!
ReplyDeleteHi Jay
ReplyDeleteNot sure you can get away with just one effect for 60 seconds. There is always the Gestalt factor in wondering what the type will say when you reveal it, but the viewer quickly loses interest, so it becomes a one trick pony, not a real showcase of Motion Graphics ablilities. I agree that what your saying is fine, but wonder if there might be a better (or addtional) way to convey your message of self-defense. btw, storyboard need captions, this is all captions. at a minimum, could you get away with all captions...maybe. i have a similar problem right now with a piece consisting of only head shots, how to break the monotony. at a minimum we might play with sizes, move the camera around, fill the screen with one word at a time. could the type suddently break away from the fairly safe reveal at present and come alive, visual Onomatopoeia? Who is reading this point of view? A girl, Woman, Man? Why do they care, have they been targeted for harassment or oppression?
